Besan Wali Bhindi – Indian Okra Recipe Video

This is a simple recipe, if you know how to work with the ladyfingers while cooking. Besan wali bhindi is nothing but the ladyfingers cooked with chickpea flour and many more Indian spices. This is just the perfect recipe. So here is how you make this at your home kitchen..

Preparation time – 10 mins Cooking time – 15 mins Ingredients:

  • Oil – 3 Tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida – pinch
  • Ginger paste – 1/4 tsp
  • Green chillies (chopped) – to taste
  • Garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Onion (chopped) – 1/2 cup
  • Coriander Powder- 1 tsp
  • Cumin Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Lady Fingers (chopped) – 1 1/2 cups
  • Garam Masala Powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Dry Mango Powder (Amchoor) – 1 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Chickpea Flour (sifted) – 2 Tbsp

Procedure:

Heat up oil in a sauce pan, add mustard seeds and allow to pop, then add cumin seeds, hing and fry for 10 secs. Add in Ginger, garlic, green chillies and cook for 30 secs. Add onion and cook for 1 min. Spice it up with coriander powder, cumin powder, mango powder and cook for 30 secs. Add  in ladyfingers and cook them with onion and spices for 10 mins covered. Make sure that you mix it once in a while. While cooking ladyfingers add salt at the end after the dish is about to complete but not while ladyfingers are getiing cooked. Make sure that you cook the ladyfinger mixture 2 mins with cover (to cook it faster) and open cover to cook it further for 2 mins( to remove the stickiness of the ladyfingers). And then again close it and cook, once if you see the ladyfingers are sticking then again cook it without cover until all the stickiness is gone. Repeat these steps until the ladyfingers and onion are nice and soft but still retain their shape Then finally season with salt, mango powder, garam masala powder. Top it odd with chickpea flour and cook for 3 mins on low to medium. Serve with rice or phulkas, rotis or any indian bread.
