Tamarind Date Chutney

Tamarind and date chutney is a sweet and sour chutney that tastes sweet ans sour which will be a great dip for many snack recipes. This is usually served as a dip along with samosas, pakoras and many chaat recipes.

Makes – 1 Cup
Preparation time – 10 mins
Cooking time – 10 mins

  • Tamarind – 1 big Lemon size ball
  • Dates – 8 no
  • Sugar – 1/2 cup
  • Red Chilli Powder – to taste
  • Coriander Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger powder – pinch
  • Cumin Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Black Salt – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Garam Masala Powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Water -1/4 cup +1 Cup


Microwave all the ingredients with just 1/4 cup of water covering it partially for 3 mins

Remove from the microwave and allow it to cool down and blend to a smooth paste. Rnn the paste through a fine sieve and collect the smooth paste without the pith in another bowl. Use 1 cup of water while filtering the juice. Add the water gradually to filter the juice.

Store in refrigerator in an air tight container and use whenever you need. It has a great shelf life.

      This is the one they use while making the chat.. the only thing is I didn’t use any color to keep it natural and healthy..
